ZENSEI made its debut in 2018 in the city of Bandung. The name "ZENSEI" combines "Zen," meaning "goodness or dishes on the table" in Japanese, and "Sei," which refers to thinly sliced and smoked meat in the Rote language. The first ZENSEI store was established in Margahayu Raya, Bandung, in the form of a small booth offering quick-served smoked beef rice boxes with various toppings. This concept made ZENSEI a pioneer in serving smoked beef quickly in Indonesia.
In 2020, the founder of ZENSEI, with strong conviction and determination, established PT. Zentama Global Indonesia as an official legal entity registered in Indonesia to provide legal support for ZENSEI. However, the Covid-19 pandemic emerged, and the government imposed activity restrictions that affected many small and large businesses, forcing them to close down. ZENSEI had to adapt by launching ZENSEI Frozen Food, which is sold throughout Indonesia through marketing agents and several major marketplaces.
ZENSEI continues to innovate in various aspects, from products to promotions and marketing, by collaborating with fashion brands, hip-hop musicians, and metal bands. One proud achievement is winning first place in the Young Entrepreneur Success Zone (YEZ) 2021 event organized by Bank BJB Tbk.
